Welcome to Serenity Acres

I would like to take the opportunity to introduce myself and my unique business service that will be provided to the residents of Ohio and the contiguous states. My name is Mary Seitz and my new business is called “Serenity Acres” Cemetery. Two years ago I read a story about a doctor in South Carolina who started a “Back to Nature Cemetery.” For some there is nothing more ghastly than the than the idea of having their mortal remains embalmed, sealed in a metal and plastic casket, and buried in a cement vault. They would prefer to be buried “au natural.” In this unique cemetery, bodies cannot be embalmed, caskets must be biodegradable, and the graves are marked only with a simple flat stone. The “Back to Nature” Cemetery will offer burials in the midst of woods, creeks, and fields. The cemeteries in this area of Ohio are form 150 to 200 years old with no room for expansion.

Turning my farm into this naturalistic cemetery will offer people the choice of going green in a traditional way. A memorial pine grove will also be added for those who choose to plant a tree in memory of a loved one. The families will have the choice of decorating their tree during the holiday season. Another option to remember a family member will be to add a fruit tree to an orchard which will also be created. The overflow of fruit will be given to a food pantry or shelter.  Hunting is allowed on this farm, hunters will be welcomed for that one last hunt.

This is more than a dig a hole and roll them in. We see nature as a return to mother earth. Becoming part of the cycle of life. Most people don't know that you do not have to be embalmed, you can refuse it. According to the Federal Trade Commission the average cost for a funeral is about $6,000.00 and many exceed $10,000.00 even cremation typically costs more than a thousand dollars and it has its environmental down side: cremation uses energy and releases dioxins and mercury (up to 6 grams per body) while preventing nutrients in the bodies from enriching the land. Each year in the U.S.'s 22,500 cemeteries we bury roughly 827,060 gallons of embalming fluid 90,272 tons of steel (caskets) 1,636,000 tons of reinforced concrete (vaults) 14,000 tons of steel (vaults) 30-plus million board feet of hardwoods (much tropical: caskets).

Your body is a natural resource, rich with life sustaining nutrients. Your choice for natural burial is a choice for natural renewal and growth, a way to give back to the earth that sustains us all. Going green is a legacy that provides a place of peace and beauty for generations to come.

Application are now being accepted. Price includes a 10x10 foot plot, cremation plots are 5x5 foot a tree of your choice. For full body internment $2,500.00 a double plot will be $4,000.00 cremation and a biodegradable box $1,000.00.Scattering of ashes $250.00. Non denominational ministers on site.

A building will be erected to provide space for an office and storage garage for maintenance of equipment. An additionally, a kitchen and a gathering space will be created and provided to families interested in having a meal in honor of their loved one. This “Back to Nature” Cemetery has been researched in great detail and carefully planned out. I thank you for taking the time to read this letter and have additional information if you are interested. Please feel free to pass this information on to business associates and clients that you feel may be interested in this type of burial. Thank you again and I look forward to hearing from you soon
